ABOUT THE SAN DIEGO GARDEN RAILWAY SOCIETY:
This society was formed in 1988 by a handful of enthusiasts who wanted a forum
to share information about the construction, operation and landscaping of garden
railways. We now have over 250 paid memberships both singles or families.
Meetings are held once a month, usually the third weekend but that date is
flexible as the host requests. Members and their guests meet to see the layout,
share information, swap stories and visit with friends, old and new.
In addition to monthly meetings there are occasional clinics given by
knowledgeable members on a variety of topics. SDGRS also has a club sponsored
and maintained layout at Children's Hospital and, most years, a layout at the
Del Mar (San Diego County) Fair built and manned by members.
Some of our members are contributors to national model train publications. Our
layouts have been featured in those same publications and have also been
showcased on HGTV and other television programs both local and national.
We provide a monthly newsletter to tell you where and when the next meeting will
be, share new product information, list other scheduled events such as train
shows and conventions and more.
OUR MAIN GOAL is to run trains and have fun. The atmosphere at our meetings is
casual and friendly. Wherever your interest lay you will find someone who shares
your enthusiasm. Whether it is prototypical operations, whimsy, live steam,
gardening or any other aspect of garden railroading there are people here who
will feel as you do. Hints and tips are readily available. Members help each
other when problems arise and advice abounds. There are also those who are
willing to work with you, or for you, to plan and establish your layout, do your
wiring, make buildings, radio control your rolling stock, etc. at reasonable
rates.
We welcome all those interested in garden railroading and hope you will join us
in the great enjoyment this hobby and the people associated with it brings.
